Eligibility requirements include:

  • Candidate must be a current or past nominee of Priority Children’s Outstanding Youth Award
  • Candidate must be a high school senior or currently enrolled in post secondary education
  • Candidate must be able to document involvement in civic and/or community service
  • Candidate must be a resident of Genesee County
  • Candidate must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher

The Guy & Linda Moxam Outstanding Youth Scholarship Fund

The Guy and Linda Moxam Outstanding Youth Scholarship Fund is provided the winner of the Outstanding Youth Award. The recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the recipient of the Outstanding Youth Award every year.  Guy and Linda Moxam have been dedicated to advancing the lives of children for over 20 years. This scholarship will be presented to the young person selected for the Outstanding Youth Award.

The Bob Emerson Scholarship Fund

The Bob Emerson Scholarship Fund was established by Bob Emerson and is an endowed fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint in 1996 and made its first award in 2007. Bob Emerson served Genesee County dedicating his work to education and advancing the lives of children.

Curbco Career Technical Education Scholarship

Curbco is a strong supporter of individuals pursuing careers in the trades. Curbco awards two scholarships annually through the Children’s Champions Breakfast. At least one of the scholarships will support a student pursuing a career in the Machining or Building Trades. One of the scholarships can support a student pursuing a career in any of the eligible Career Technical Education Fields listed below.

Scholarship Guidelines

  • Scholarship awards are merit based, with a minimum of cumulative 2.5 grade point average.
  • Scholarship awards are based on financial need.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a trades program through trades school, trade association, community college, apprenticeship program, university or approved other educational institution
  • Preference given to a senior from a Genesee County school.
  • Scholarship award must be used for tuition, books and/or supplies toward the career technical education curriculum/apprenticeship.

Scholarship Application Requirements

  • Nomination received by someone other than the student or parent

  • Scholarship Application completed by the student, which includes:
  • Essay (maximum 1 page) or video (minimum of 1 minute, maximum 3 minutes) answering the questions:
    • Why you deserve the scholarship?
    • What are your goals and aspirations?
    • Where do you plan to further your education
  • Letter of recommendation from a counselor, a teacher or other mentor (parents are excluded) are not required but are strongly encouraged.
